A monkey cares for and protects a puppy in a series of heartwarming snaps that show it has "adopted" the abandoned pooch. The rhesus macaque took the dog under its wing and the pair are now said to be inseparable, with pictures showing the monkey cleaning and protecting the tiny puppy as if it were its own baby.
In one snap, the monkey even clutches the mutt to its chest as it leaps from a tree.
Another pic shows the macaque baring its teeth to frighten off a stray dog.
It is also seen picking dirt and fleas off the pooch and letting its four-legged friend drink first from a bowl of milk.
One onlooker, Sasi Kumar, told the country's Zee News: "People who have seen them all spoke of their strong mutual affection and described their bond as the most caring thing in the world.
"To take care of a puppy in danger and protect him like a parent, their undying affection gives us a valuable lesson about relationships.
"It seems the monkey must have lost its baby and was heartbroken. It is quite possible that it saw its own baby in the puppy and decided to protect and adopt it."
